Tehya, Paeton and Makenna moved in with us for part of this week while mom and dad were away.
In this unusual reality, my thoughts have been with younger moms
and how their days play themselves out.
I decided that if I were a young mom, I would not find time to blog
There's a whole lot of things I probably would not be doing.
Having said that, I wish to tell any moms out there in the midst of raising your children,
it's going to be okay. On days when it feels like you are forever
picking things off the floor
wiping counters
folding tossed clothing
running the bath
cleaning up the bath
moving shoes around
filling backpacks
fixing messy ponytails
listening
comforting
thinking ahead
picking up milk again . . .
with no one really noticing
or applauding the hero you are when
they are called to dinner,
when they find their matched up clean socks in the basket,
when you watch from the side at a steamed up indoor pool,
when you remind them to practice piano . . .
help them find the supplies for a school project . . .
cheer them on from under an umbrella in a cross country run,
take them to Sunday school and clubs
and camp and youth . . .
. . . let me assure you, this is not forever.
One day you will watch them walk across that stage
and you will cry and you will be proud and know you did the best you could.
You will have helped them become the heroes of the next generation . . .
and then there will be time for all the things you wish you could be doing.
For today and every tomorrow, know that what matters is what God sees.
I look back in wonder and thank Him for His grace.
The kids were handed off and my hat changed . . .
We have been preparing two menus to cook up for the kitchen theatre
at the West Coast Women's Show
The first is on Friday at two
the second one Saturday at noon.
Much of the rest of the time we'll be hanging around the beautiful Winks booth.
Two years ago they were excited to sell our first cookbook at the show . . .
this weekend they are bringing in a number of boxes of the Celebrations book as well.
As you may know, all author royalties of this book go to the WASH program in Kenya
while Winks has committed their profit to a charity on top of that.
We'll be happy to see all who can come!
