Good Night Kiss

I began the Month of May with a song that reminds us of the privelege of being a mother and so I'll end it with another one by Steve and Annie Chapman that always made me cry when our kids were little. I don't know why I do this to myself, but maybe it's good to be reminded of how quickly things change and to appreciate the time we have.

I count it as a privilege, I count it cause for praise
To kiss my children goodnight at the close of everyday
For I know too soon they're off and gone and walkin' out the door
And I'll never have a child to kiss goodnight anymore

It's very strange how times have changed from the present to the past
When did they grow so quickly? The time has flown so fast
For it seems that only yesterday I helped him with his shirt
Or patted my baby on the back or kissed away a hurt

Tell the story, read a book, wipe a nose or tie a shoe
They never ask me to rub their back the way they used to do
Once it was a bother, just a troublesome kind of chore
Now I would give anything to do it just once more

Mommy bounce me on your knee, Daddy flip me in the air
Throw a rubber ball to me and help me comb my hair
Mommy tickle my tummy, Daddy hold me high
Let's go outside for awhile or make a kite to fly

I count it as a privilege, I count it cause for praise
To kiss my children goodnight at the close of every day
For I know too soon they're off and gone and walkin' out the door
And I'll never have a child to kiss goodnight anymore

Contrary to what the photos show, the kids each had their own bed, but for some reason Julene's was the prefered one. Often times when we'd go to check on them before going to bed ourselves, we'd have to move one back to his or her bed.

I love this! Such cute pictures. I remember listening to this song when I was growing up (my parents had the tape). It really is hard to believe how quickly time slips by. Looking at these photos makes me remember all the sleepovers with Julene & Kristal. Didn't we all sleep in one bed together at your house one time?! Such good memories :)

Love, Bonnie

Oh wow, what an appropriate song for me right now.......our youngest son is moving out this weekend and getting married next month. We are now officially "empty nesters"! I've been reminding myself today to count my blessings, to look back with thanksgiving instead of regret, and to look forward with anticipation of the fun memories we will make with the family and future grandchildren!!

Oh, my, I sang that song as a solo many years ago in a choir program at our church when our children were small and we've been "empty nesters" for a long time now -- I think I feel a tear running down my cheek! They wrote such great music related to "family".

I'm smack dab in the middle of kissing hurts goodbye, patting backs, and reading stories! And you still made me cry, just thinking about the time that will come when my boys no longer need me in these tangible ways. Thanks for the reminder to cherish each of these mommy moments now. :-)

Oh Anneliese. ..this is such a wonderful and true song. I can remember being at your place for meetings and coffee and something wonderful from your oven. . .but I also remember as clear as a bell. .you putting your children to bed. . .never with a fuss. . I always remember one of you going with the children. . but them stopping off to kiss the parent that remained with the meeting..
So .. I know that this song is true in your life.

This is all so real ... just last night Paet wanted to sleep with Tehya. And instead of on the floor where we tucked him in, I later found him in bed with Tehya. They begged me to move Paet's bed into Teh & Kenna's room ... Paet insisted that he didn't mind at all having a pink room!
