On Blogging and Listening

The word blog still comes up in my spell check as incorrect. Where does it come from and how has it become so much a part of my life? Lately I’ve feared that I may run out of things to write. I mentioned something to my H about writing another history post and he made a comment about whether I really need to post something every other day. I responded by saying that it’s a form of discipline.
It’s me. I do laundry on Mondays and Thursdays. I get groceries on Tuesdays. I clean house on Fridays. You get the idea. Discipline gets me doing what I need to do. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy blogging, it’s just a nice challenge that sometimes takes effort, as most routine things do.

There is one thing I’ve noticed and I hate to admit it. It’s hard to attach the same discipline into the spiritual aspect of my life. Do I feel as badly about missing out a time with God, as I do in missing a post? That is my question for today… and I need to do something about it.
It’s not only that. It’s the fact that I would even think of it as discipline. When we love to get together with someone whom we love to hear from, is it discipline? I hardly think of walking with my friend as discipline anymore, because I enjoy it so much! And I do enjoy the sitting and hearing from God … but it still is discipline to get to the point of sitting down. Why do other things seem to have more urgency, when in reality, other things fall into place better, if I’ve taken the time to listen first.

Anneliese, I can relate .. .I also have found that blogging is a good discipline and even now when things are so busy in my house. .I feel I must at least do a quick post just to keep connected and also to see positive things in my life.

But. . .when it comes to cracking up the word of God . . .I too need to make it a deeper priority. Why is that? I have begun to keep my devotional right in front of my computer. .it serves as a reminder to me. . what matters most.

I appreciate your honesty Anneliese. In you I have found someone in blogging that my heart often says ..."yes". .she understands.

You ladies may never know all the people's hearts and minds that you touch. For me I do not have a close realtionship with my mom and I find comfort in your daily posts and of course the recipes and think of you as mentors for me as an ever learning wife and mother and a new chrisitan. Thanks so much.

Anneliese, I don't know if I've commented before or not, but I should have. I can relate to your post and thought I should let you know that I visit your blog often from Lovella's. I can echo Lori's words, that you both may never know just how many others you encourage or mentor with your writing. I am a young wife and I often long for a closer relationship with my own mom as she is not a believer and doesn't live close by. So I am often very encouraged by and learn so much from your posts. Thank you for writing. I too appreciate your honesty.-- Amber

Hi Anneliese!
I believe that all our moments are moments with God...our awareness of Him in each moment makes them holy.

How important it is to have quiet times...
...time to listen, read, just BE.

When my children were little, I used to have a quiet time in the early morning.

Later, it was after they went off to school... and before I left for work.

Now... it's at work, at my desk, before I go home. It's so quiet in my classroom...no phones are ringing or anyone knocking ~ I'm reading the psalms right now along with a short inspirational verse.

"For Everything a Season" I guess!

~a lovely weekend to you, Anneliese~

Amber and Lori - I wish there was a way to respond to you another way, but in case you check back here . .. you have no idea how much your comments meant to me! The whole idea of encouraging younger women is what touches my heart strings . . . and to think it can happen here, is beyond me.
It's good to know "this audience" and it started me thinking some more on those lines.
And can I say . . . above all, keep praying for your moms.
