This is the view from the table we sat down at after a gorgeous walk on the seawall at Stanley Park.
With our spinach and artichoke dip appetizer we also shared a spring salad that was still large even though it was split.
Then we shared a chicken penne asiago . . .
and as the lights came on the trees lining the street, we savored small teaspoons of an apple caramel crisp and sipped coffee.
I couldn't help but think of how unexpectedly pleasant this stage in our lives is. I still remember thinking it would never be "just the two of us" again. And now, it is here . . . with so many shared memories. Memories that make up a life that is ours - with all it's joy and pain, in the process bringing meaning to becoming one - yet stronger.
We still do what couples do when they get a babysitter, (they go out and end up talking about the kids) it's just that now there are even more to talk about. . . more smiles . . . more prayers . . . more dreams . . . more love to pass around.
I actually quite like this stage. Maybe someone needed to hear that today.

It really is a wonderful stage, indeed! What a blessing from God to still enjoy each other after all the years, tears, joys, ups, and downs. Blessings on the two to you!
Anneliese. . we say this all the time and it feels wonderful to know that other couples are experiencing the same thing. I smile as I think of how we were young couples together . .and then young families and now here we are. . . .the same again.
Your date looks really wonderful.
You are right...it is a wonderful time in our lives! Still together...still enjoying each other...and all the blessings of our family beides.
Your Milestones meal is exactly what I would have ordered.
That is so true... I love days like that...just chatting up a storm about life and it's future.
We, too, am enjoying this stage of life when it is just the two of us! What a blessing every stage of life has been! Celebrate while we can! Looks like a delicious meal - dessert and all!
mmmmm...food looks amazing; that looks like almost the exact seat we had when we ate there during the Olympics :)
i've heard that stage in life is great, and i look forward to it (though i'm enjoying the journey getting there, for sure!)
looks like a great shared meal together!
And although i'm not in that stage, i'm reminded to enjoy the stage I'm at and know that each stage is unique and wonderful! So glad you are enjoying the stage where you guys are at! :)
Hi
I came by your blog awhile ago through some mutual friends and love reading your posts. But today, I had to write something because I am one, as a mom of 3 young kids in the midst of sleepless nights and no time to spend with my husband, I needed to hear what you wrote in this post.
Thankyou
Lizzie

This sounds like heaven on Earth. i was truly Blessed reading your entry..May you continue to experience God's richest blessings..
We too are loving this stage of life...and experience all the things you mentioned too. Each season holds something beautiful...it's good to find that and share it. I can hear it.....you enjoyed your date! Kathy
Thank you Anneliese - I visit your blog regularly and you seem to speak to my heart every time! My oldest son is getting married this Friday and I'm happy but a little sad. I needed to hear that life will be full with new adventures but that my husband and I will still go out and talk about the kids! Thanks for spending the time to express your thoughts - I always appreciate it.
Karin
The empty nest stage is indeed a wonderful time of life, when love has been nurtured through the years!
I am one that needed to hear this today. Thank you!
