One of the Mennonite traditions we still enjoy is Zwieback with jam and cheese.

and I have decided that making these buns and calling them by their name is something I'd like to pass on . . . especially since the grands love them.

So, without further adieu, as you can tell, it's never too early to start.

Makenna enjoys rolling and patting

and giving them that extra pinch or push.
Jam sandwich is one of the first things she asks for when she gets up in the morning, when she wants a snack, lunchtime. after nap time, dinner time and pretty well 'anytime' time.

A wonderful tradition to pass down! Love your little cooks!
I'm smiling. So cute!
I love making zweiback with the grands. . .so much so that I often plan it as an activity. The dough flies. . and memories are made.
Your pictures are wonderful.
Adorable post. Your grandbaby is a beauty. Such sweet memories you are making with the grands.
i don't know what is sweeter, your g'daughter or the jam.....:).
Another munchin' menno in the making. Good job!

Yummy...was that a bun with jam or jam with a bun? You put a smile on my face!
I used to make some zwiebach with my ex (he was from German Mennonite family) - need to make some again! They are yummy!
Do you know about the Frances books, by Russ Hoban? This made me think of "Bread and Jam for Frances" They are wonderful books.
Her favorite treat is mine too! "Jamsawidge"
I've tried Paska (too good!) so now I guess it's time to try zwiebach - it looks so yummy!
