From the Air

It still amazes me how flying to another continent carries with it a certain professionalism that heightens the whole experience and anticipation of the reason for such a trip. We boarded our plane late Wednesday night . . .  in fact it really was in the wee hours of Thursday morning. On our seats lay a folded quilt and pillow, a pair of slippers and a little bag with some toiletries tucked inside.

We made ourselves comfy for the night … it really felt like it was time … but first . . . a meal was served. After the cabin lights were turned down, we went to sleep . . .  while 90 lb-flight attendants floated down the aisle delivering apple juice or whatever we might need. Just the way our grandchildren would like for us to do.

After a number of hours we decided to call it a night. I went to the powder room  and was struck with the view as I looked across the cabin. In the dark, I saw a sea of lit up monitors all over the large cabin, as each passenger found their own source of entertainment on the backs of each seat. Getting back to my seat, we decided to check out what was showing.

The touch screen monitors were quite impressive … offering a variety of things to keep us busy with.

…movies . . . shopping . . . emailing

following our travel stats . . .

and our route on a map. We covered a lot of ocean!

Just before we landed, a beautiful breakfast was served. I don’t know why . . . but I love the meals on these little trays. I have no idea how they keep bacon and eggs hot on a twelve hour flight, but since I did not have to prepare it, I just enjoyed it.

We landed in Taipei just before the sun came up. My watch told me it was about half past two Thursday afternoon, when in reality it was early Friday . . . in this part of the world. Sometime during the preceding 20 hours of darkness, we lost a day.

We are on our way to Jakarta now, where a room is waiting. The hard thing will be to stay awake until it’s not insanely early to go to bed. I know this routine already. Tomorrow morning (which - at home - is still Friday) we have just two short flights to go. I cannot even express how happy I am!

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:9-10

.. .do you have on your pretty dress? We all want to see.
What a wonderful flight experience. We only few a couple of times when they served the meals ..and like you I quite enjoyed them. I also do not recall minding hospital food either when I had my kids. . .which is kind of funny. It goes to prove a meal made for us is always a treat.

I'm so glad you had such a great flight. ..and could be comfy during the long flip flop of days. I'm so excited for you too! Have tons of fun!

It sounds to me like you are enjoying the journey...and not just waiting for the destination. That's how it should be!

And now...put on the dress and have a wonderful time!

I will never say no to any one who offers me a meal...bacon and eggs is a favorite.
I can just see and hear the anticipation in your blog for the next 24 hours.

Amazing that someone else liked "watching" the GPS like I did when I went overseas - I was the subject of much good-hearted family teasing for doing this...so I was very happy to find another mom doing just the same as she traveled!! Glad to hear you are having safe travels...thanks so much for sharing your family with us Anneliese...you brighten the lives of many! Much love to you and your family!

I believe I have flown with that same airline, and they are the best! When I flew, they didn't have the fancy touch screens, but still individual tv's with choices.
Hope you have lots and lots of fun!

You make me want to fly away somewhere! Haven't been away in a few years now. I hope you thoroughly enjoy every minute of your visit.

PS: what an appropriate verse!
