One of the Sundays were were there, we attended a home church, where we got to meet some other ex-pat workers. After the service we ordered take out food to enjoy with the other families.
Inside the package . . . the meal is spread on a banana leaf. The name of this meal is ayam penyet . . . ayam refers to chicken. The triangular shaped patty is a soy cake called tempe.
On top of the rice was a slice of cooked eggplant and the meal was garnished with fresh basil and cucumber. It was delicious!
On one of our the days there, we encouraged Chris and Julene to take the opportunity to go on a date while we ordered in something special with the kids.
It all looked familiar, yet different.
and it came delivered! In this country they deliver pretty well anything . . . and usually via some kind of bike.
We took the food out to the enclosed patio . . .
and had a party on the floor!

Oh Anneliese, I just love hearing about all these great experiences you share with your family when you are with them. Your grand children will have a very rich growing up experience that will mold them into wonderful caring adults, understanding more the ways of the world and people just having grown up in another country...and having you as grandparents too....of course:)
How great is this! Love the takeout and it does look delicious. That delivery bike is really cool. So do they serve noodles as a side with the KFC? Wonderful memories...
Thank you for providing a glimpse of another culture to us. Your posts are interesting and I enjoy "experiencing" life in a foreign (to me) country.
what a wonderful time of memory making you had while there....
That looks like sooooo much fun! What amazing memories!
Quite different...but wonderful, I'm sure! What memories you have made with your grands in a far away place.
Good old Kentucky Fried! Looks like the kids were loving it!
Now that looks like a wonderful picnic! I'm just so happy for you all that you are able to see your family as often as you do...living soooo far apart. You know how to make the most of every moment together. I'm glad you let us share your joy.
OH KFC picnic..so fun and I love that you show us these fun moments. They have noodles at KFC there?
So can you skype with the kids often or is their slow internet too slow?
Lovella.. about skype ... we have been frustrated with the picture because it's blurry and slow ... words are kind of garbled so that it's hard to follow a story and the kids loose interest... but skyping without video works well.
It was so nice to have several breaks while you were here!
