Imagine the early morning feel before it gets almost unbearably hot and humid to take a walk . . .
. . . roosters crowing . . . a playground with rusted out play equipment . . . laundry hanging from every porch and post . . . skinny stray cats or dogs appearing out of nowhere . . . and, at certain given times, the not so distant sound of the mosque calling people to prayer.
Organic eggs is what you will surely get here . . .
. . . and now you know why the chicken crossed the road! And the one with the bad hair day? It was no better on other days.
But in spite of the things we would never see at home . . . I kept a look-out for the natural beauty.
This red plant, which there are many of, always caught my eye.
One morning we took a little side path through another subdivision . . .
where we passed another vendor selling his fresh vegetables and catch of the day.
I'll finish with my favorite picture . . . a house we passed on the way told us something about the person living there . . . someone who obviously has a love for plants and creating a beautiful space with what they have. There is something to be said about finding beauty in simple things. It brought joy to both of us.

This is so amazing how God sets His beautiful creation in motion all over the world, whether rich or poor. I love all the beautiful plants and the chickens, definitely organic. Thank you for sharing this memorable and amazing trip. I am sure the memories will last awhile to come.
Beautiful Anneliese. I love the natural and organic feeling in your photos!
Your walk about reminded me of walks we took just off cruise ship ports. Tortola looked much like this. ..complete with chickens running amuck.
that first photo is stunning! so beautiful!
I enjoyed the stroll. Thanks for taking us along! When my hubby and I went to Hawaii, we saw chickens everywhere on the island of Kauai. They had a big chicken industry years ago. Then a hurricane hit and scattered the chickens everywhere. They gave up trying to round them up and that was the end of the industry. So, they just walk around wild and nest anywhere they choose!
Beautiful photos...of life at it is in Julene's part of the world. Love the colours of the foliage!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures. I have a friend who is heading to Indonesia next week and have told her to check out your site. I have to tell you too that I picked up my cookbook from Mennonite Publishing House in Waterloo this week and made your wonderful blueberry scones for our Royal Wedding Tea/Coffee break at work yesterday (at about 5:30 a.m. while watching that enchanting wedding). They were a huge hit - absolutely love the cookbook and especially your recipes!!!!!
I could almost feel the humidity and smell the scents of the flowers! Your photographs made me feel like I was there; and made me want to go there! Doesn't it make you happy that God shares the beauty of his creation with everyone; rich or poor...and He doen't mind a bit if we plant his flowers atop oil drums! I like that picture better than a finely landscaped country club because it tells me something about the person's heart...
I loved my walks with you, Mom ... The bad-hair day chicken has not had a good-hair day yet!
