This past weekend we took a leap into unknown territory when we said yes to the invitation by Winks Home Garden and Gifts to join them at the West Coast Women's Show. Winks owner, Wendy, with her capable staff set up one of the most beautiful displays of the entire show. Maybe I'm saying that because she sells beautiful things ... whereas the guy next door, selling pots, may have sold practical stuff, they just did not look as pretty. And this coming from someone who likes to cook?
Just look at those displays ... are they not beautiful and attractive? And since the reason to be there was to have a look, people just had to stop.
Sitting at the table to sign books or standing and visiting with guests, we met so many women . . . always happy to share the story of the book. And it sold. So did a lot of Winks merchandise. There was a beeline to the handbags, scarves and especially the jewelry. I must confess I did some shopping too.
On Saturday, as well as on Sunday, we took a turn on the kitchen theatre. We were honored by Chef Dez introducing us and hanging around to sample after the shows.
At our first presentation, we did up a brunch idea calling it Gathering Family for Breakfast. I did waffles . . . Judy, the vanilla custard . . . Julie (behind me) the triple berry sauce . . . Marg and Ellen, ham and egg cups. Ellen came up from Seattle for the show and she helped wherever she was needed . . .
while Lovella M.C.'d about what was going on and told our story.
The berry sauce and the milk for the custard . . . on the monitor . . .
for a while we were all watching to see if the milk would ever come to a boil . . . while Lovella continued to talk . . . because she is good at that. Come to think of it, she is good at a lot of things.
The ham and egg cups came out of the oven
and out of the pan, beautifully . . .
and it all came together just in time. We made up tiny samples of the waffles with toppings and they disappeared quickly.
In the end we had some left-over custard with berries to taste ...
and the eggs.. which we did not serve, deciding to be on the cautious side of health concerns.
By Sunday, Ellen and Marg had left us, but Bev joined us for the Autum Soups and Scones theme on stage to make savory cheddar scones. We made a cauliflower soup (which is in the book) from scratch.
The second soup was a roasted pepper soup, made with home-roasted peppers and yams.
Again ... it was so good to see friends as well as those who had never heard of the MGCC in the audience.
I must say that the second time up there was quite fun! It is a good thing to be challenged to keep growing in this journey with sister-like friends!

Wow. .you got some awesome photo's. Thank you Sherry for coming to see the show and using Anneliese's camera.
What a good re-cap of a fun time at the West Coast Women's Show! How's the voice today?
Yes... thank you, Sherry. I neglected to give you credit. It was so nice to have your smiling face there and not mind when I plopped that camerea into your hands, really without thinking.
Thank you for your wonderful hospitality Anneliese in treating me at your home. I love the collage you put together from the booth. Hope your voice is better. Our DIL Laura's voice has been out for a solid week already...there must be something going around. That soup and those scones look delicious!!
What a full day you girls had. With wonderful results! Wish I could have been there.
I hope your voice soon recovers.
Wonderful to see you all there......my thoughts and prayers were with you girls over the weekend. The food looks wonderful! Now you can relax!
I liked your collage with it's "what a wonderful world" message. Funny; I had just posted a similar black-and-white message on my last post. I guess happy thoughts are in style!
Your soup and savory scones look delicious and I think I will wow my husband for supper tonight. I don't have a cast iron skillet, though...wonder if something else will work.
Even if you lose your voice you can still talk as long as you have your fingers =)
Looks like so much fun and so delicious!!
It was a wonderful time and again, the unknown territory that goes with it, but I think we'd all agree that we would do it again.
Where's that photo of that little gift that your purchased? Black and white?? I adored it.
THe Winks booth looks so attractive! And the cheese scones look delicious. Will have to try those sometime when I'm making soup.
Looks like a great time! You guys have become real celebrities!
That looks like so much fun. I love that saying you have on the table that ends with "I am a cook." I've gotta make the cauliflower soup!
At the kids' one-room-school house yesterday, I was talking with an 8th grader about cooking & I mentioned that my Mom loves to cook and is even "famous" in her part of the world. One of the teachers piped up and asked what the cookbook is called and when I told her she said, "Oh I think I've heard of that!" "See!" I laughed :-) Well, Mom, you are famous even in the ends of the earth!
Looks great. What a great experience.

So glad you guys did it! Some people never do the "jumping in" or "just do it" thing...God is sending you opportunities and you guys are being faithful with them! Well Done!
I continue to be very happy and proud of all the Mennonite girls who can cook, and make a cookbook, and do presentations, and book tours, and teach and remind us all about hospitality. I see God's welcoming heart in who you are and what you do.
