Christmas at the Lakehouse

These days are so full, it's really not practical to even think about posting; yet in a crazy way the satisfaction I get in journaling about the day's events slightly trumps the idea of getting to bed at a decent hour. I say slighlty . . . when the grands come to snuggle in the morning there won't be much of a chance to get those extra winks, so I'll still keep this short. I know there is at least one niece who will be checking for this particular post. Larissa, we missed you and Tim.

On Tuesday we packed up the car with food for the day and drove over to the Lakehouse for our
extended family gathering.

Four generations getting together is something we do not want to take for granted.  Great-grandparents sitting back and enjoying the scene, grandparents cooking and setting up tables . . . four settings . . . parents attending to their youngest ones and older children energized by the noisy full cabin.

Tehya, who happens to be the oldest great-granddaughter on my side of the family took charge of the younger ones by setting up a school room and playing teacher.  I was surprised to see how the younger ones co-operated.

We crowded around the stove and the kitchen island, we all got food and ate . . .

we sang carols and opened gifts . . . but at the end of the evening we were all richer, not because of what we had received, but because of what we shared.
It is wonderful to be family.

And total memory flashback of Julene doing the same as Tehya with us younger cousins.

Your lakeside cabin looks charming, and it looks like many memories were made that had been made by previous generations.
You are blessed to have your mother.

It looks like a wonderful time together...four generations in a cozy cabin at the lake to celebrate Christmas and enjoy each other.

I smiled when I read your statement about the satisfaction that comes from journaling trumping the idea of getting to bed on time. It makes sense to me!

Special gatherings with extended family are such a blessing! It's so good for the young ones to grow up with that solid foundation of love.

What a wonderful bunch you have to celebrate with. I'm with you on needing to get stuff written down...

I am glad you took the time to share. Four generations is a gift and it was beautiful to see the smiling faces at the table and oh wow...to have an oldest grandchild to cooperate the little ones....amazing.

That looks like such a lovely celebration - all those children - after being apart for such a long time you must have been beside yourself with happiness.

I just had to post this because I realized this week that you are not the person I thought you were.

You see, way back when I commented something very unkind to you. And then this week at the hairdresser I realized that you are NOT the woman I see every Sunday or at the hairdresser. So I started going back through your posts and realized you have a husband and at the hairdresser this woman was sharing about how this Christmas was going to be awful since her divorce.

I am so very sorry for all those things I said to you and it wasn't even you. But more importantly, I feel awful for even commenting such things and just needed to say "I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart". I have learned a very hard lesson through all this.

So please forgive me. And just so you know, you definitely have a twin in Abbotsford who attends the Seven Day Adventist church, where I attend.

Again, I am very sorry for anything that would have caused you pain.

I don't even need to sign my name as I'm sure you remember me.

Dear Anonymous,
I'm sure it took a lot of courage for you to post this and I just want to thank you and tell you that I forgive you. I looked back at that comment .. it was the first post this year... and I hope you do not mind that I copied your comment to that spot. That should end off that chapter.

The year began with a number of blows... this was one ... but it turned out to be a very good year, one in which I feel very blessed!

So thank you for coming back and letting me know that you made a mistake. I have often wondered who is watching me ... and in some ways it may have been a good lesson for me to realize that people do watch us. It also shows us not to judge people too quickly, because we never know what they are going through.

What a blessing you all are! I am still moved beyond words. It means so much to me to have not only the financial but the personal and emotional support from my family. Thank you over and over again!
