I went back to school for half a day. Three anxious little souls were waiting in their respective classes, for the right Grammy to walk through that door.
Natalie's kindergarten class was all decked out like a jungle. She showed me her journal and her beautiful scrapbook with all of her artwork. We had stations in the room to visit, one at which she showed me how well she could do sign language. It was a special visit I will never forget.
Paeton, almost shy-like yet, proudly showed me to his desk, where he read to me a recent report he had researched and written. It was several pages long.
I loved it! Especially since I could visualize the orangutans that we visited with him in Indonesia.
We also worked on a little exercise on how school was the same/different when I went to school. I told him we did not do art in elementary school. He showed me his artwork around the room and as we looked out of the window, he told me where he plays hockey at recess.
Tehya welcomed me with uninhibited joy to her classroom. There I had to sit down on a chair, like an old lady, for a photo op. She promptly jumped on my lap and gave me the biggest, almost smothering hug as the photographer clicked. She also had an exercise ready, one in which I had to practice my nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. She's smiling at the funny story being concocted.
She took me to the gym to show me more artwork, and asked me to find her name.
When I could not see it, she took down her page and folded it up to show me.
The morning culminated with snacks in the gym and a program by all of the classes except for the Kindergarten class. It was so nice to get a feel of the school and the commitment to excellence tampered with good humor. A song that one of the classes sang was called Elephants Have Wrinkles. One of the students thought it would be a good one to sing for the grandparents. I wonder why?

Elephants have wrinkles indeed. It reminds me of the book I read called the saggy baggy elephant. Did they read you that book too? Also quite applicable.
I love seeing school through your grammy eyes. These days are coming for me.
So so sweet! I love the "Elephants have wrinkles" addition to the day! So funny.
Paeton has such neat handwriting! Looks like a fun day for everyone.
Paeton's printing takes the prize! What a great idea...having a grandparent's day! And I'm smiling at their choice of book.
That is so great - what a fun visit! Our Taeya had grandparents day, but unfortunately fell on a day she wasn't in school (part-time kindergarten). it was too bad, but we look forward to next year.
glad you could experience school with the grandkids!
Your grands are so cute! I love the activities the classes chose to get grandparents involved. I was drawn to your grandson's beautiful, neat handwriting - a skill that seems to be overlooked these days. Seems that their school is full of good things!
Aww - this is so sweet. You are such an amazing grammy!
His handwriting is SO NEAT! And the art is amazing!
How convenient, to have the grandkids in the same school! They sure did some nice work and it must have been rewarding for them to show it to you. Grandparents day looks like great fun! (even if they made fun of wrinkles : )
So much fun! What a joy to be able to see three of your grandchildren at the same time!
What an exciting day! And - it looks like all of your grand kids are extremely intelligent! I especially love Paeton's story about Orangeutans!
Mom, YOU made this day amazing! Thank you for being such a big part of our kids' lives!
How special that all 3 of them are at school together.
I love the welcome poster - I bet there were very few grands there that fit that stereotypical mold. :)
Aren't grandkids the absolute best!!!
What a wonderful treat for you! And, years from now, they will remember that you came.
Looks like a most enjoyable memory to nail down...beautiful drawings from the heart who are eagerly waiting till grandma can come and have a peek!!
Two more years and maybe I'll get to be a Grammy at school! Yeah!
What a special day for you and your beautiful grandchildren -- I love their "work"!
Delightful post! Your Paeton looks so much like his grandpa! The girls, so proud that Mimi has come.
That is so nice that the school has a Grandparents Day! And I was impressed with Paeton's handwriting, it is so neat and legible!
