Just Giving Thanks

Maybe it's because it's come upon us suddenly, that I still catch myself
"looking in" on a hushed moment.
It can be an insignificant moment, such as walking away from the table
to rock a newborn and, turning, I fight back tears of joy at the sight around the table I just got up from . . . where all of the kids are interacting . . . unaware.
Maybe it's because I know the days of this "being normal" are numbered.

On Saturday we were all together for dinner for Landon's fourth Birthday.
Kristal had decorated according to his favorite hockey team,
with a banner and delicious homemade cupcakes.
A hockey net rounded out the pile of gifts perfectly.
Our big boy's eyes shone with all of the attention and
I came away so grateful for enjoyable family conversation,
a daddy's birthday prayer for his boy,
kids romping
 and great-grandparents full of smiles.

Then, Sunday afternoon found us walking Fishtrap Creek
and picking pussy willows with Julene's family.
We spent some time at the playground before coming home for Faspa.
Tehya chose the vase and did up the table arrangement.
We had quiche, veggies, buns, jam, cheese and lemon buns,
enjoying every bite to the full!
 The most simple meal,
but the one they continually remind us of that they missed the most,
 when we were apart.
And these are reasons to give thanks on a weekend in March.

I guess we can just do our best to enjoy what we have of our children and grandchildren as long as we have them. Sometimes it's a physical ache for me, when I think of the little boys and I long for those weekend dinners together. It's lovely to see how much you appreciate each moment together.

It's the collection of all those special moments in time that make for a beautiful life. I too, feel such gratitude lately!

You are such a gifted writer - you write from your heart and I feel like you are a kindred spirit. When you write about your faith, it speaks to my soul and I thank you for your wisdom and your ability to express the love you have for our saviour. May you be blessed for your faithfulness.
