The kids are all smiles when they get to play outside - especially when Papa opens the musty smelling shed and finds treasures in there for them. I'm sure that one day when they are all grown up, they will come across that scent somewhere and they will think of the shed and the wonderful old toys and tools it held. Recently, one day, they came out with the wheel barrow and, noticing from the window, I just knew what was about to take place. How did I know?
A memory of the past came flooding back. I went looking for a photo of all three kids . . . I thought there must be one . . .but this is what I found. By the looks of it, wheelbarrow rides were introduced early in life. The baby in there is the mom to the three in the first photo.
And while you're here . . . just take a look at the playground! It was the best! He brought the swings and slide in for the winter . . . and riding toys - the same ones that are in the shed now - got whipped in circles around the furnace in the center of the basement. This one area had a green carpet, but most of the floor was cement and perfect for riding.
I've always appreciated how he plays with them. When he came home from a hard day at the office, life at home really began. No one played with the kids like their daddy did. And now . . . now I see it all over again . . . action packed play, real life stories about snakes and Indians, teasing and tickling.
These are some of the things I love about him . . .
Happy Father's Day to my H ...the best Dad and Papa!

I had to laugh at this photo. We have a picture of Opa pushing us around on the farm in a wheelbarrow. I miss him!
He has taught his boys so well to love, work hard and show Jesus to his kids and Grandkids. He was a soft spoken man but an legacy he has left.
Now Josiah and Eli's get to hear Opi's stories about the Indians and his horse "King". Thank you for sharing this post. It has brought a lot of memories and tears of thanksgiving for my Dad and Opa. What a Father we have who has blessed us with so much.
Love you Aunt Anneliese

This too has brought memories of to my mind of when we were little with our dad, who so patiently would work with us and had us sit on wood he was hand cutting and creating a few toys for us kids to play. My hubby pushed our girls in the wheelbarrow many times and I am sure they have not forgotten that. I love H's slippers of the yesteryears, they sure remind me of mom's.
The expressions on the kids' faces in the first picture are priceless! Your H is great with kids. What a brilliant idea, to bring the swing set inside for winter - never heard of anyone else doing that.
Now I really want to go empty out my basement for a play area. A daunting task!
I like how you are able to find pictures tying the previous generation's joys to the new generation. It's fun to see.
The children in your lives will always have such wonderful memories of him. Happy father's day all!
And your H's enthusiasm has touched the lives of my 2 boys too who can't wait to see him again this summer!
Happy Father's Day, Dad!!!
What a loving father & papa! We love you so much!!! I love that our kids get to hear your stories like I did. Thank you for playing with them and taking them on dates! Thank you for the Dad you are to me!
Love from Julene
Fun post...full of good memories! Your H deserves a 'happy father's day/grandfather's day'.
Sweet post! Looks like something my Hubby would do...pushing them in the wheelbarrow. He's always finding something in the garage that will make a fun and different plaything...did it for our kids and doing it with the grands. I see your toy lawnmowers...we have those, too!
I like the fuzzy blue slippers he is wearing in the second picture.
Anonymous... I was ready to say someting about those as well . . . surprised to see them when I found the photo. He never wears slippers and I could have guranteed he never had. I forgot. It was obviously winter and that cement floor did get cold. =)
So very sweet! What a blessing for the kids and grands to have a dad that plays with them.
It was great catching up on quite a few of your meaningful posts! Love visiting your blog - so peaceful and refreshing! God bless!
