When Signs Come True

Why is it that sometimes we do not see the signs ...

until they come true?
After this deer crossed our path . . . I noticed the signs had been there all along.

I could just leave this be, but I began to think about other signs and how easy it is to ignore them. In Matthew 24 Jesus told his disciples that this earth would pass away one day. "Tell us" his disciples said, "When will this happen and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
Jesus told them about the increase of wars, famine and earthquakes, but what got me in reading the passage was that again and again Jesus warns against deception. He makes it plain that there will be no guessing about the truth. We will not have to go looking for Him when someone tells us "Look, there He is ...." Rather, He says, "For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the son of Man ... immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door."

In all of this there is a wonderful hope in the gospel. The verse in Romans 10:13, is one that grabbed me as a young girl, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." The verses following are verses that give me courage right now . . . "How then can they call on the one they have not believed in; and how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard; And how can they hear unless someone tells them?" The gospel is good news - for sharing.

Thank you for your thoughts. I love it when Jesus uses a simple everyday thing, such as your sign, to teach me a lesson. Recently while weeding my flower bed I received one of these lessons.

Thank you Anneliese - this is a good reminder to be on the 'watch' and to wait in anticipation of the exciting life ahead of us.

Thanks for the lesson today! Just like the parables, He uses things we can relate to to teach us His truth!

Beautiful. All we need to do is believe. Salvation is not by works. All the work was done by Jesus. Amazing Grace ... Our chains are gone, we've been set free!

Thanks for the reminder. It's so easy to get caught up in the commonplace and to forget the signs. BTW...I have NEVER seen a deer where the signs are! It's become a joke with hubby and me.

I love this. There is indeed many signs and we can dread them or our heart can quicken with the realization that Jesus is coming...soon.
