Before winter comes to an end, I thought I'd go way back to a winter in 1991. It was actually several years in a row, that we got together with friends, packed up our food and kids for the weekend and drove to Leavenworth, WA.
Together, we rented a four bedroom house, fully furnished and each family took one bedroom. We rotated who made meals and just had a great time, cross-country skiing, eating and playing games.
Some of the retro moms and dads working in the kitchen. I have been friends with these girls since my late teens and we still get together as grandmas now.
(That was almost difficult to type . . . but what a precious gift!)
The house was located in a perfect spot just on the outskirts of town, with a cross country ski trail going right by it.
The weather was always gorgeous from what I remember. Cold, but sunny.
Just off the deck there was a hot-tub that the kids thought was quite a novel thing. It looks like on this particular year there were only two boys, but I remember one year there was a family with just boys, and they thought it was great fun to roll in the snow before dipping into the tub.
Mr Beck was the greatest story teller!
I don't remember if he got a "not having to do dishes" privilege for this.

Love that kind of walk down memory lane! What a great photo...of the kids gathered around the storyteller.
What fun! ditto on what Judy said!!
Beautiful place . . . and beautiful, happy memories!
Loved all the pictures and your thoughts on them! Those were amazing times down there weren't they? And Mr Beck? Well he is still telling stories to a whole new generation of kids...his grandkids! The children of the children in the picture!! Love it! Thanks for posting!
What great memories :)
Looks like great fun! Reminds me of the times we went camping with several other families. It was always a great adventure!
Yes, so fun seeing these pictures! I have such good memories of the times we did this!
What great memories!! I especially love that you still get together with your friends as young grandparents! These are the life times that are never ever forgotten! Thanks for sharing this trip down memory lane Anneliese!
I loved the picture of the kids in the hot tub. I bet they still remember those outings fondly!
Aren't friends wonderful? And old friends who have walked the road with us are the best!
Oh what fun to see what you enjoyed doing with other families way back when. It is fun to recognize some of those retro moms and dads.
This post brought me some smiles. Those retro moms and dads...are we really in that category? What a fun and beautiful trip down memory lane. Wouldn't it be fun to sit and talk with your children, as to what are their outstanding memories of these times? I do believe, from the picture, that storytelling would be one of them. I love that picture!
