Resting

I can't imagine that I look as cute any more while I sleep,
so this old photo is my choice for today. . .

The story is that I fell asleep during a church meeting and
one of the ladies decided to put pot holders under my head before taking a picture.
This I find rather funny now,
considering how often I grab for pot holders.

Going back to last week . . .
As I backed out of the garage, to see a doctor,
I thought to thank God for this "inconvenience" in my day.
I don't always give thanks in all circumstances, but I want to learn to do that.
And do you know what?
I find that when I thank God for something that was not in my plan
the likelihood of seeing something good in it becomes possible.
The result of the "inconvenience" gives me permission to rest.
Sometimes we need something to tell us
to cease striving and know that He is God.

Part of an old hymn that has been modernized
by some artists of today has been ringing in my head . . .

 Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon thee,
As thy beauty fills my soul,
For by thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain:
Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of thy loving heart.

O how great thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O how marvelous thy goodness
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in thee, Beloved,
Know what wealth of grace is thine,
Know thy certainty of promise
And have made it mine.

This is so cute...and just to think how those elderly women took care of you, and you may not use pot holders anymore, but would sure look for a quickly stuffy or towel to place gently around a small child sleeping. You deserve a rest Anneliese and may God give you special opportunities to hear him while you rest.

What a sweet picture.
I hope you are truly able to rest and then return to what you love to do, refreshed and renewed.

I think of the inconvenience of having to run back into the house for something and later being in the store instead of getting back into my car when a bullet went right through the vehicle parked beside me.

Enjoy your time of resting!
