Playing House

Like I said . . . playing house has been a big part of these past days. I have not spent this much time in there for a long time . . . sore back or not . . . this was serious business.

We began in the "real" playhouse.  . . . where there would be nighttime and morningtime . . . and then we would move to the other house. I have no idea where she got this idea from.
Plastic pizza, dishes, wallet etc. were thrown into a bag and off we were to the house under the stairs  . . . to repeat a half minute night and move again.

When Papa was home, he got roped in for a tea party. . .

And if it was not crowded enough, the teddy bear was tenderly cared for too.

In the house under the stairs, real china (originally from great-great Omi) was pulled out of the china cabinet.

We poured and stirred and sipped . . .

Tea never tasted so good!

In this house, Lacey found the box of doll clothes and began to sort through them. The reality of siting under the stairs and possibly seeing the old through new eyes made me wonder why I had not gotten rid of the old dolls and bought some beautiful new ones already,

but  after dressing them and fixing their hair . . . they did not look
quite so shabby and I decided Cabbage Patch, Pumpkin Patch, My Child and Kid Sisters of the eighties needed to be in a photo.

Dolls owned by two sisters of another generation . . .
maybe it's not up to me to take them away.
They certainly don't cause any trouble down there.

Cabbage Patch kids will never get thrown away by this girl who loved playing with them and hopes to someday have a granddaughter who will play with them, since I only have sons. :-)

What a terrific playhouse under the stairs. I agree with Kathy's comment, Cabbage Patch dolls can be washed and made "new" again. They are so fun to play with, as I've witnessed through my girls when they were little and now my grandkids. You guys are sure having lots of fun!

What a great post, Anneliese - so much fun to have tea parties with little girls. I agree, keeping the old dolls and toys is a good thing.

What fun. Now I'm glad I didn't let Katie get rid of all her dolls. They are in the attic. Looks like lots of fun memories have been made...

What fun...to play in the playhouse once again and bring out the dolls of yesteryear! I'm sure everyone is glad you kept those dolls.

I love that under the stairs playhouse and feel a wee bit envious of those little girls. I just have to hire myself a playhouse builder come spring.

We never had cabbage patch dolls in our house since it was boys who lived with us. I often thought though how much fun it would be to buy one. It's good you still have room for those loved dolls.

Sweet sweet post! Darling little home makers. My playroom is also home to those same dolls from the 80's...who were played with by two sisters too.

No matter how old dolls are.. or how shabby -- they were once 'children' and loved by one generation, only to be loved by the next as well!
I wish my grands were still little! Your playday brought back sweet memories for me !

Oh I am so glad I hung on to my kids' Cabbage Patch/ Pumpkin Patch dolls. The Cabbage patch boys went through a gentle wash cycle and looked brand spanking new when I gave them (again!) to our son at his wife's baby shower. There is something sweet about seeing the dolls being played with again by the now grown up boy and his own little baby boy.
(And as the tea party on Duck Dynasty showed, Grandpa should have a feather boa to wear when he goes to little girl tea parties. Feathers...he needs lots of feathers and a touch of nail polish too!)

This is such a sweet post! What fun under those stairs....
I really hope I get to haul out my old dolls and my daughters old dolls one day to be used in this way - dare I wish this?
