Believing God

Four years ago I joined a Beth Moore Study at church. In each session we watched a video followed by some interaction and sharing of what we had learned in our homework.
Last week I got out my workbook/journal we worked out of and began to go through it on my own again. I’m wondering if what I learned is a tad more active in my life now than it was then?
At the time I did this study, called Believing God, we had been through some difficult years in which my belief had been challenged. Life was not turning out how I would have planned it. Maybe it is during those times that we either question or solidify what we actually believe.
So, my plan is to go through and highlight the essence of what “believing God “ looks like, since it is the heart of Christianity.
I wish to clarify that this devotional is not about getting you to believe in God. I’m assuming that most people believe that there is a God. Rather, this is about a continuation, an ongoing, life experience. Beth tells us in her introduction that she has become convinced that we see so little of God because we believe Him for so little.
If this study causes me to become more aware of God in my daily life and to recognize Him as He leaves visible prints, then it will be time well spent. The challenge will be to begin my days with expectation and to end them, remembering.

Excellent thoughts Anneliese. I know that at times I have wondered where God is and yet when I look back on hard situations. . I see that he was there and his comfort was not in ways I had expected but remembering those times gives us deeper roots for the next difficult times in our lives. .because they are inevitable.

I hear you: tough situtation and "this isn't what I expected/hoped/thought You would give me" causes some deep and painful re-evaluation.

One friend said it is like knocking down a tower of blocks. Then you start over again, picking up the blocks that you can't deny...yes, there is a God. Yes, I believe He loves me. Yes,I believe in Jesus..and so it goes, bit by bit until reconciliation with God is made possible.
I am very thankful that my DIL is in a B. Moore study right now. She is so liberal that sometimes I wonder how she reconciles her faith.Hopefully she will recognize some truth via Moore's lessons.

It's in the valleys we get pruned, get fertilized, get watered, and hopefully through the whole process we grow deeper roots and bloom beautifully as well as bring forth fruit for eternity! Great post!

Last spring my Bible study group did Beth Moore's "Living Beyond Yourselves" on the Spirit filled life. It was very well received by these women who are Northern, conservative, and doctrinally persnickety! (And proud of it) It was excellent and her videos so entertaining yet practical and challenging.

I liked reading your thoughts on this...and I like what you said about how we either question or solidify our beliefs when we go through challenges. In my own recent experiences, my first response has always been to question the challenges - however, what I've come to learn is that there isn't always a clear answer as to WHY God allows some things to happen to us. In these circumstances, I'm learning to TRUST FIRST rather than question.

Love, Bonnie

I've gone through this study twice and both times it made a real impact on me. I have to remind myself often to actively BELIEVE what I say I believe. What's that old proverb?
" you can't just talk the talk you have to walk the walk!" Thanks, Anneliese.

I'm going through that study right now too and it is wonderful to be led through Scripture and to be challenged in those ways. Enjoy the second run through!

Now I'm thinking I should do this study. Good thoughts on the impact of those tough times, Anneliese.

Great study! Beth is definitely an anointed teacher and writer. You'll probably be surprised at the new things God will show you the second time through because you are in a different place now. It has happened to me in other studies.
