Like I said, this is not a time to fuss . . . but you are free to do what you enjoy doing and so on the day of, I thought I should dress up the tables a bit, seeing it is Thanksgiving after all.
My H came home for lunch and he clipped some leaves from a tree in the yard. A simple candle stand with some leaves, some ornamental gourds or nuts in their shells, strewn about, make a quick centerpiece.
A fall garland is something I purchased years ago and it has come in very useful. Sometimes I add some real leaves for more fullness.
This time some chocolates in a crystal cream and sugar set added a vintage look to the table setting in the dining room.
Since the garland is a vine it was appropriate to add some real grapes . . . which we have in our back yard right now. Evidence of the harvest has always been a theme around Thanksgiving in my past.
Anything that reminds me of warmth and comfort also goes. Coffee beans surrounding a lit candle is one that hits a chord with me.

It all looks so lovely, warm and welcoming.
Warm and welcoming! Nice touches.
Lovely ideas Anneliese - simple and heartwarming. A way to show your care group that you do care!
Your home always says welcome here whether you add anything or not.
Making someone feel welcome has so much to do with the warmth with which people are welcomed as they walk in the door.
Your simple ideas are always so pretty. I came home and felt inspired to set my table pretty for thanksgiving as well.
So pretty. I love the coffee bean idea.
So lovely.....I love setting a fall table. Your suggestions and table scape are wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving!
You really have a special touch for decorating; your table is beautiful. I'm sure the fellowship around it was warm!
I love this. The fact that your gathering is an 'extension of church' and you are 'free to do what you enjoy doing'. That is such a nice way to live life. It's a blessing.
