Sugar cookies are a fun treat anytime of the year!
All you need is the right cookie cutter for the occasion.
I had saved a Ferrero Rocher Easter Bunny container from another year,
thinking I may use it as a cookie cutter one day.
It worked very well.
Two bunnies, rolled out slightly thicker than the small cookies, baked until golden around the edges and left to cool on the cookie sheet.
Other spring shapes I sprinkled with colored sugar . . .
before putting them in the oven.
I like to outline the small cookies with an icing that hardens when it dries
. . . but since the large ones were made for someone special . . .
someone who loves the icing . . . I decided to ice the whole cookie.
The little cookies got wrapped up to be included in the Easter baskets.
And the big bunnies became a table centerpiece. (I froze them
once the icing was dry, and took them out of the freezer on the day we had dinner.
As the icing thaws it gets a tad wet again, so I let them air dry and then set them up)
I have so enjoyed Kari's reaction to a simple gift of sugar cookies.
On this day she got to take home the centerpiece and everyone else just smiled . . .
because her expression of joy, in itself, is a gift to everyone else.

Oh I love your sugar cookie centerpiece. What a great idea to copy..or I mean borrow!
Your little cookies are darling too. I should get my cookie cutters out and get busy with the little ones too.
I still have a week....right?
Your new header photo is priceless. I love that baby arm.
Beautiful cookies - and a special take-home gift for kids of all ages!
I love your header, too. It reminds me of the fact that our children and grands are only small for a season and that we should cherish each moment with them.
Those cookies are so pretty, cute and tempting! Love the tulips! What a wonderfully thought out Easter meal you served your family.
What a creative idea to save the bunny shaped container and use it as a cookie cutter! It's beautiful. Your table looks so lovely and I can imagine how those cookies were received with much delight! I hope your week went well and that the goodbyes to come are sweet and tender.
What a great idea! You sure set a beautiful table.
Lovely and charming ideas, but I do NOT understand how you are not all massively obese. The "Mennonite girls" and their families must have some genetic anomaly that refuses to recognize calories.
Sharon
Sharon, you make me smile! I'm thinking about it here... I made those cookies, but I have not had a desire to have one yet. And ...if you saw the energy of the little ones . . . well they burn off the calories in no time. And they are less calories than candy, I'm sure. But the Paska ... I have had a few slices. All in moderation, right?
Anyways, thank you for the compliment! My age is starting to tell me to slow down on the sweets so I have to give them away more often because I like to make them.
I'm loving the sweet header picture...adorable!
Very creative - and yummy too! Love the shot of a sweetie holding a posey of flowers!
Beautiful cookies. I don't do cookie cutter cookies very well.I think I don't roll the dough thin enough. It is special that you took such care to make them. I'm sure they were a hit with everyone!
Whenever I'm in the city, I love to go the Pottery Barn. Nothing caught my eye for Easter, but your little arrangements are just perfect and caught my eye! How creative.
Oh...those cookies are so cute! Lot's of good ideas here for Easter. Thanks for sharing!
I love those centerpieces, what a clever idea!!!
Love all the cookies.
Could you please post the recipe for the icing you used for the bunnies (white icing).
Thank you.
Cheryl
Cheryl,
although I gladly give out the recipe, I was almost afraid someone would ask, because it's not one I measure. I start with about 2 Tbsp of soft butter or margarine in a 4 cup measuring cup or bowl. Then I put in about two cups of icing (confectioner's) sugar and a few Tbsp of milk. Stir well and adjust to a consitencey that spreads nicely...adding more icing sugar or milk, as needed. For piping, I make sure it's not too runny. Spread and let air dry a few hours. I hope that helps.
oooooo!.....Your sugar cookies have special healing powers, I swear! For the stomach AND the soul :) Thank you so much for making these giants especially for me...They disappeared in a snap. And watch out Cheryl, try as you may, no one makes icing like Anneliese Friesen!!!
I think these cookies should be a yearly tradition!!!
