She's Working with Me

One day this week, a day after some of the grandkids were here,
I turned in the kitchen and something bright greeted me on the side of the fridge.
It brought a smile. I read it as a note saying,
 "I was here"
. . . still a fairly new concept, to be cherished

My grandkids know that my fridge door stays bare.
One asked me recently, "Grammy, why don't you put magnets on it?"
Well . . .  I have a reason and a half . . . sort of.
The whole reason is that magnets scratch the finish on this particular model.
The half reason is that I don't really care for cluttered fridge doors ...
but that is only half a reason . ..
because I'd be willing to ignore that reason in certain circumstances.

When I saw this alternative . . . I was happy. Not a big space, but it works.

Isn't it great when we can find a way to make everyone happy?

It works just fine! I rather like an uncluttered fridge door as well...but the grands have discovered that they can cover the door with little notes written on post-it papers. I smile at that kind of clutter!

I don't like clutter, but I have to admit..my fridge has an array of artwork displayed telling me that there is motion in our kitchen.

Too cute! Magnets don't work on my new refrigerator front. They do work on the sides...

I love it - what a sweet message to find waiting for you.

It doesn't take much space to make a child happy!!

I love your new header picture, Anneliese. Yes, it's very precious when a note like that is left for a grandma.
I love an uncluttered fridge but also love to see the faces of friends and family looking back at me. So until I find an alternative, they will stay.

Sweet post! I remember when my niece was little, she liked to go through my mom's drawers and put things in baggies....back then they had twist ties.. .no ziplocs! Anyway, after she would go home, sometimes days later, my mom would find one of her bags and laugh! Now, I find matchbox cars in the bay window and decks of Go Fish in the end table drawers and it makes me smile...remembering they were here and looking forward to the next visit!

Aww - so cute! It's good that on my new fridge door the magnets don't work - my old one used to look like it could fall forward with all that stuff on it! Much neater now. I have a chalk board at the doorway where notes like "I was here" sometimes appear.

I bet this fridge note says the opposite to the scribbles that she wrote in Indonesia while verbalizing: "Gammy, Papa, I miss you soooo much!"

She's probably writing, "I am soooo happy to be close!"

Quite stylish, in a Danish modern way (wink).
Once we got a brushed steel fridge, I went magnet free because they don't stick! It was hard to get used to not having a place for notes, but when necessary, a sticky note works.

Our daughter used to hide sticky love notes to her grandparents all over their house whenever she visited. Years later most of them are still there...her grandparents couldn't bear to remove them.

how adorable....Im a paradox...I don't like clutter but yet it seems that it follows me everywhere...grin. Must be my nature, to organize what I must and let the rest 'just be'.

I love the "I was here!" messages. I used to walk through my house after my little ones had been there and delight in all the left behind hand prints!
Perfect compromise, using the side instead of the front of the fridge!

That is such a sweet love note....I can see why the 1/2 rule is good:) You must just love having the grandkids close by.
