A Morning Walk

The complex was a buzz with straw-hatted men, riding and pushing lawnmowers,
trimming plants and blowing walks clean.
After my grapefruit and toasted English muffin with blackberry jelly,
I decided to go for a walk.
He said he'd come as well . . . for which I was glad.

On streets where each house matches the next with bougainvilleas climbing on every column . . .
where one lawn looks like the next and

matching mailboxes line the road . . . I may end up twirling around a little longer than planned.

I am just in awe when I look around and see what grows in the desert.

and as I admired the flowers along the street I could not help but marvel
at how every place on this earth has it's own beauty to boast of.

This interesting plant looks like it grows tacky, glittery  brushes

Seriously, who would have thought to grow such a flower?
The uniqueness is what makes it beautiful.

My favourite this year, so far, is this blooming cactus.

With the sun shining brightly, it was hard to see what I was getting on my camera, but
isn't it amazing to see what comes out of a cactus?

There are no crashing ocean waves in these parts,
but hidden springs of water do wonders in this oasis in the desert.

I can almost feel it...hear it...smell it...that desert place you are enjoying. It's one of our favorite places as well. Beautiful pic's, Anneliese!

The red flower is a Callistemon or Bottlebrush.
I came across these unique blooms in India, 6 years ago and am looking forward to seeing them again this fall when we go to visit an orphanage in Northern India.

A dessert oasis is most beautiful...especially seeing it through your eyes.

Hi Anneliese - the plant looks like a Bottlebrush. We have a native tree in NZ called the Pohutukawa tree which has similar flowers, though deeper red and not sparkley - known as the NZ Christmas tree. They are quite spectactular when out in force.

You don't always need the ocean to notice those small intricate beauties that God has created. The wonder is that you have the time to enjoy this time with your family.

Beautiful - I am always in awe at God's creativity! Such attention to detail and beauty even in spots the human eye cannot see.

I have never taken a walk in a desert area so I found this to be quite interesting. I am thankful that you captured the exquisite and uniquely beautiful flowers. You described them well.
