"There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1

Sisters

Those who have grandchildren living farther away understand the implications of time together being an all or nothing experience.  When we visit there or here, there are suitcases to pack for an overnight stay. Time together is intentional . . . so you go from wake up till you fall into bed  . . . and maybe in between there yet again.
One thing that has captured my attention is how beautiful young children look when they first wake up. There is nothing quite like it  . . . and there is not a thing they need to do to look ready for the day. Pure, beautiful innocence all wrapped up in a package like dew on roses.
Sigh . . .

One has silky smooth hair and one has hair that looks like you just took hot rollers out of her hair. (this photo is on the messy side) One has lively brown eyes and one has sparkly blue eyes. One has a slow smile and one has a quick smile.
We have been caring for them while Ben and Kari are on a trip. The second night I thought it was time for a bath, and Lacey told me that she does not take baths in other people's houses. Teddy, on the other hand, bent over into the tub of water and slurped water from her hands.
Every day is an adventure . . . and you will not find me being the mom I used to be . . . because time is short . . . I will squeeze into the playhouse, dress dolls and have tea parties. I hardly know what to cook for real supper these days.

Play time with grands is far and away better than any play time that was had as a mother/child duo. Everything can wait until later when the grand is at hand!

Every time I get to spend time with my grandchild I am thankful. He lives just 8 minutes away from us and I hope it will stay that way. We see him at least once or twice a week. That being said, I have realized that the out of town grandparents actually rack up more hours with our mutual grand by visiting a couple of weeks a year. They get to have the breakfast and the "nite-nite" time that in town grandparents rarely get.

I wouldn't switch places with them; am glad that each of us get access to unique special times.

They are such beautiful girls. You are right... they wake up just so beautiful.
I have often thought that those that have out of town adult kids have experiences we don't have and so it makes sense that that experience would extend to the littles.
Knowing you are racking up great memories and precious play time.

I recently had two weeks of out-of-town grand parenting so I know what you mean. Enjoy every moment of tea parties and squeezing into the playhouse, lol !

I was noticing how different they look, and then you pointed out their differences too! Teddy's curls are beautiful, and Lacey's eyes are so pretty. What fun you must be having with them!

So darling those two. What fun you have had. Taking this time out just to be with them and be a mommy in their house, and make these memories.....such a gift.

Thank goodness we're not expected to be the moms we used to be when we become grand-moms! What beautiful girls and how special that you have some alone (without parents) time with them, enjoy!

Melting over here... What you said about children when they wake up ! I still have in my not-ever-will-forget memory, pictures of my girls when they were little and how I loved to watch them wake up! and then hug and kiss them to pieces !
The time is always too short - kids grow up too fast! I wish I had recognized what I recognized as a grandmother when I was a mother.
