Clean Windows

As I was cleaning up mail on my computer, I came across an email I wrote to my daughter back in 2005. I had forgotten about this dialogue and found it interesting. In a way it has confirmed the in me the value of keeping some kind of record of what we learn. Life is a series of events and seasons that change and if we don’t remember what we learn from them, how will we grow? Later, this week I will share my daughter’s response and more of what I was reminded about. So here’s the first email:

I'm sitting and reading "Captivating", a book Kari bought for me. What just encouraged me about God is that He loves beauty. It doesn't have to be practical, it can just be beautiful. I love it, because sometimes I almost feel guilty for liking beauty.
That brings me to my clean windows! I looked up and just enjoyed having clean windows.
(We had them professionally cleaned this week) I love clean windows! When my windows are clean, my whole house feels clean. The leaves on the trees are gently waving with the breeze,
and the sun from behind the trees is casting all kinds of "sunny, shadowy" dancing shapes on my coffee table and different places in the room. It's a beautiful feeling.
If I had a blog, that's what I would write today.

First of all, I love beauty too! And on that note, your kitchen is beautiful! :-)
This entry reminds me of a quote from "The Color Purple" which is one of my favorite novels. Celie is walking in a field of flowers and says something like this, "You know,I think it ticks God off if you walk by the color purple and don't notice it!" In addition to the beauty that God created, I think he has given us the privilege to notice it as well.

Thank you Anneliese, I feel like I can completely relate. .except for my windows aren't exactly sparkly right now. .but I felt that at Easter with my post. .a little like that. .I wanted the beauty of the decorations without leaving out the real reason we celebrate. .and now I feel completely justified in that.

The sun came out...and I cleaned windows yesterday. I'm thinking God would prefer them to be clean. I have a much clearer picture of the beauty around me when the windows are clean.

Nice post.

That's a great book isn't it Anneliese? It's so heart warming to read this in a day when so many things are chaotic...
I might be a farmer at heart as you described me, but I want you to know that I always get a professional window washer to get me started in Spring. Yea!!!

I love clean windows AND clean counters! What a spotless counter you have! Just gorgeous!
I don't have a lot of storage in my kitchen and sometimes my counter starts to accumulate things during the work week when life is a bit rushed
... Anyone have ideas about that?

The events of this week have put me in a "classroom" to learn about beauty, just as you so appreciate, Mom. And I, like you, love beauty. I think the enemy of our souls hates it. Actually I know that he does. But our God didn't cause flowers to grow in a dark cave, no they grow out in the open for everyone to see ... and they don't have much purpose except to look beautiful and allow birds to live and bees to produce sweet honey ... "Beautiful One I love"!

Your photo is gorgeous! Looking at a clean counter with a lovely bouquet and enjoying sparkling windows is a joy to me as well. Just had our windows done but unfortunately our view at present is of construction of brand new housing and not a lovely green valley like I used to have! I love visiting your blog; just linked it.
