High in the Colorado Mountains

By now you can guess that this is where we’ve left a piece of our hearts . . .

My H joined me over the Victoria Day long weekend as we continued making some lasting memories. Shaun and Kristal took us down the historic downtown Main Street where we admired the charming original buildings dating back to the 1800’s.

One landmark being, The Grand Strater Hotel, built in 1887.

I took a peek into the Lobby.

And did you know the The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is based here? This could be of interest to a certain someone . . .

I couldn’t help but go into the little French Bakery and check out the goodies there. One day I do want to sit down at one of their tables and actually try a French pastry . . .

just the two of us . . . mother and daughter.

We drove through some old tree-lined streets, checking out the heritage homes . . .

where I couldn’t help but take pictures.

On Sunday afternoon, after meeting many friendly people at the church in the movie theatre, we drove up to a ski resort that reminded us of a mini Whistler.

And . . . as they say . . . what goes up must come down . . . so we did. We came back home to life in the valley . . . where we also have beautiful mountains surrounding us.

Hi, I came across your blog through my cousin, Heidi (nothingbutbluesky - our moms are sisters) and noticed some of your family lives in Durango. We all live in Montrose - just 2.5 beautiful hours North. If your daughter and fam need some good, Canadian company, they're more than welcome!!

What a lovely place to visit - with the lure of family to make it even more appealing. It looks like you had some awesome mother/daughter time. I'm looking forward to that in a couple of weeks albeit in a much different (flatter!) place.

I live just 30 miles south of Durango on the New Mexico side. Durango offers so much history and culture that we often go on our little day trips up there. I lived there in the 70's and it was an awesome "hippy" town with lots of arts and crafts. We'd be living there if we didn't have our little cottage here AND the taxes are cheaper in NM....lol.
Glad you had such a great time. The Strater is my favorite. We spend almost every anniversary there (over the past 35 years).
