Continuation

In my last post I mentioned what everyone else was doing,
but I forgot to say why I had my camera out.
I was trying to capture some shots of one of my favorites in the garden.

Some of the shoots were in a jar on the table,

a mere copy of the little tree planted just beside the patio.

This dwarf lilac tree is one of the first to show off it's clusters of flower heads,
 soon after the camellia.
The first color that appears is a deep purple, fading in color as it opens,
from a dark mauve to a lighter mauve.

I can never quite decide which stage I like best.

Once the blooms open, there is only a small window of time to enjoy them. This photo was taken a few days later, from our eating area window. It was a late afternoon and drizzling . . . giving the garden a lush look . . . but also a reminder that the season for this tree is almost over.

Soon the faded blooms will need to be removed
and by Fall this little tree will need a few good prunes to keep it small.
Small is good.
But it takes pruning.

We have one of these bushes/trees in our garden too, and we love it when it's in full bloom...but like you say, then you also know that the end is near.
Ours is just starting to bloom and it smells so delicious!!

The lilac season is all too short. My blooms need trimming already. Do you think we appreciate lilacs all the more for their short season?

What a sweet and beautiful little lilac bush! I love them too. I love the contrast of purple and green, it's so perfect!

Beautiful! We have a very "old" large lilac with deep purple scented flowers. This year, alas, the buds were frozen in an unusual hard frost and we had no blooms - first time that's ever happened! Lilacs are also one of my favourites! Your yard looks gorgeous!

I would love to put some of those lilac pictures on hold...they are so delicate and every time I walk past my push I can smell the fragrance.

Just beautiful...the lilac and your photos. And the fragrance...heavenly! We have a dwarf lilac planted next to our bedroom window...hoping to catch a whiff from inside.

Lilacs, weddings, fashion, and beauty...I found it all here today, and was so thankful that I visited you. Your baking helper is so adorable!

By the way, you inspired me to soak all my dishcloths in Chlorox. They all look so good now. Thank you!
