As far as I know, the jean jacket came around when I was in my teens . . . in the 70's. I have not googled this... this is just my memory. They take me back to an era of flowery maxi dresses, such as my grad dress above and flared seafarer jeans.
Since then, the jean jacket has come and gone . . . or maybe it's never really gone, but it certainly is one of those jackets that can hang in your closet for many years before trying it on again after some form of a sabbatical.
These are the combinations I came up with when I shopped a couple of closets in our house.
The jacket has hung in my closet for years. It was a hand me-up from my daughter-in-law. And since she has great taste, I figure even if it's old and may not be the latest fit, it can't be too shabby.
It was fun to pair it up with a more contemporary style of dress and necklace.
I think something with a bit of bling also works well
and I like how it works with a thin strand of pearls,
or something lacy.
I think this may be my favorite . . . an old maxi dress
pulled from the closet that used to be the girls' room . . .
now holding memories of weddings and other special occasions.
I think I'll claim this one for myself.

I don't know what the front of your grad dress looks like, but you could probably find something like it in stores now! So the jean jacket isn't the only thing that can be pulled out of the closet after a while!
Love the jacket . . . it looks so soft and comfy! It's hard to choose a favorite of all the outfits/jewelry; I like them all!
Isn't it interesting how versatile the jeans jacket is, from dressy to casual and working well with any number of fabrics and fibers.
A few years ago I had a new jeans jacket and someone shut the trunk latch of the car on it (we were traveling), creating several holes. I was terribly disappointed even though I knew 'holey' jeans were in style. I still wear it, although now it is getting faded as well as holey.
Not a single hint of grandma...100% rocking it!
Love this! I particularly like the look of a jean jacket with something flowery or ruffly or vintage. I would wear my jean jacket a lot more if I didn't wear jeans all the time! I have such a hard time giving up my jeans though. And even though I read somewhere recently that you can wear a jean jacket with jeans, particularly if the denims are different shades....I'm still not sure about that. That's a lot of denim! Yours looks really cute on you! And I like the necklace in the last pic.
You look cute in it all! I have never had one...maybe I should make the investment...you make it look so versatile! :-)
What a fun post Anneliese! The jacket looks great with all your choices. I've had mine for many years too - it looks a little shabby/chic but I still wear it. I've seen jean jackets worn by brides over their wedding dress and it looks fabulous. So, so versatile!
Love it...and I definitely have a 'thing' for denim jackets (and skirts...and jeans...and dresses on my kids) but I dont think this one is from me! :) Glad you're getting good use out of it though!
Great photos - who was the photographer? You really know how to rock the jean jacket!
I always love your fashion posts. It shows a side of you that you that is lovely and confident at the same time.
I have several jean jackets and especially love to wear them this year with a long skirt or dress to dress down the outfit.
All your outfits are very cute and you could easily be a model.
you have such a natural flare for putting clothes together! Can't decide which is my favourite :)
You wear it well...every which way!
I think i have my Jean jacket somewhere in the closet, and i dont think they will ever really go out of style. Richard
Your dimpled girlish look goes so well with the oh so tough denim jacket look. I love your multiple pairings too;you really mix up the look in a fresh way.
I keep looking but have yet to find just the right jeans jacket to flatter my own tall classic look but I haven't given up yet!
Denim and lace or denim and pearls are both great looks. A touch of lady with a splash of rebel is ALWAYS a good combination.
Our jean jackets are a reminder of working on the farm. But I must say it looks ever so cute with your fashions. I may need to recreate some looks for my denim..on the other hand...Your photos are looking wonderful.
Love the look of the denim jacket with the prom dress. That was my favourite. Interestingly, I've been on the lookout for a dark denim jacket in the length that yours is. I haven't come across it yet!
