Numbering our Days

She was born in the cold Siberian wasteland in 1917. Her parents couldn’t give her the luxury of schooling past one year, because she was the oldest and had to help with the care of younger siblings. Moving across the ocean as a 12-year-old and pioneering the Chaco didn’t improve her chances of learning to read and write. Besides being at an age where she would not have fit in anymore, she was also needed at home.
She married young and gave birth to ten children. She raised nine, working alongside her husband on the land and tending to family needs.
Now, as we visit her, she spreads her hands, and asks, “Wo sind die Tage? Wo sind die Jahre?” She’s wondering where the days and years have gone? They passed by so quickly.

Little Lacey doesn’t know that, although she is great-grandchild number 52, she was admired as though she was her first. We have not seen such a big smile on her face in a long time.

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

How precious is that. The two extremes of life, the beginning and the end.
May we all live our lives with little regret.
Little Lacey is certainly loved by all, now that is a blessing.

Ii was touched by this post. Her opportunities for education may not have been available due to circumstance....but to me she far exceeded formal training. She learned to work hard and obviously give of herself to serve her family. Raising 10 children takes energy, creativity, sacrifice, wisdom, discipline and love....things most of us did not learn by going to school. She has the blessing of 52 great grandchildren, and family who love her and take care of her. Family that have not forgotten their aging mom and come to share the joys of life with her. What a blessing. One day Lacey will enjoy the photo you took. Kathy (MGCC)

How beautiful to reflect on our parents and grand parents...We have been so blessed....You have totally inspired me Anneliese to continue loving scrapbooking and photo albums.. and this past month, I have found so many new wonderful memories...
Can't post enough sometimes when I look how God has blessed us.
It will be fun to share this with Lacey as she grows older.

And her Children will rise up and called her Blessed.
What a tender post .. .looking back at all that she accomplished according to God's will.
The world will say that we need to be educated in order to make contributions to society but really .. .all we need is to be available in where God asks us to be.

What a touching post...about a most special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother! Though she may not have succeeded in the things the world holds dear...she lived for those things which matter most in life.

A very sweet picture!

It is a special moment indeed when a great-grandparent meets a little one.
We were able to present our Mom with a great-grandson last year and she was beaming ear to ear, and what made this so very special was the fact that this one was the first to carry on the line. She had waited a long time for this, not that all the other greats weren't special too but when our son put his little newborn son in her lap it truly was a special moment and everyone saw it.
She went home to be with her Lord 2 and half months later.

The little ones are such joy bringers. Lance said, when his twins were tiny, that he thought their main role in life at the time was to bring joy - and they did.

Little Lacey is right on task bringing joy.
